    Sometimes when there is a difference between the price offered by the purchaser and the price demanded by the seller the tinker who is "making the deal" (as the bargain is called) suggests to "split the difference" or "tear it" if he succeeds in making the bargain he receives "a tip" from the buyer something about a shilling or two. These tinkers also judge the horses for the buyers.
