    Roinn Roinn Postáil
    In former times nearly all the houses had thatched roofs. The thatch was made from wheaten straw. In olden times people had a bed in the kitchen. The fire place was at the gable end. The fronts of the chimneys were made of clay. In former times some houses had no chimneys but they had a hole in the roof to let out the smoke. The houses sometimes had no glass in the windows but the people stuffed bags into the holes. Half doors were common in olden times but they are not now. Sticks dipped in oil were used to show light. Turf was was used for fuel
