- There are two tailors in this district. One of them lives in Innishannon and the other one in Upton. Both of them work at home. The tailors in olden times used to travel from house to house working. The tailors do not stock cloth but the people who employ them supply it. There is no cloth made here now but it was made in olden times. There is an old saying about tailors that it would take seven tailors to make a man. The implements a tailor requires for his trade are a needle, a sewing-machine, a scissors, an iron, an ironing board and a measuring tape. Shirts are not made at home. Socks and stockings are made locally. The thread is not made locally but it was in olden times. The thread was made on a spinning wheel from the wool of their own sheep. They kept some of the thread for knitting and they sent the rest to the weaver to make cloth.
There are no spinning wheels now in the district. Black clothes are worn at the death of a relative.- Bailitheoir
