    visited the barns of neighbouring farmers and picked up the cast away shoots (bunán). These when set produced a good crop and people considered it as "God's special doing".
    On another occasion my grandmother on taking some milk to a poor neighbour found the father dead near the fireplace and two boys dying on a bed of straw. All three were buried without coffins.
    In most instances in this locality the mother was the first victim, starving herself to give a bit to the children.
