- Churning
Churning usually takes place every Monday in this locality. Our churning barrel is about four feet high and three feet long.
We scald the barrel with boiling water in the Winter. It takes us about a half an hour to make the butter.
If a stranger came in he would say "God bless the work" and help churn the butter, that is, if he does not help with the process, no butter will ever be made in that house. In the Summer the butter is often soft, but in the Winter all butter is hard.
When the butter is made the buttermilk is let out through a small hole in the barrel, which is secured by a cork, after this cold water is thrown into the(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
