  1. Weather Lore
    The people of this district, especially the fishermen, have been always particularly good at predicting the weather, but for some years back they cannot predict the weather with the same certainty that they used to in former years.
    For some reason the signs by which they predicted the weather do not hold good now.
    The following are regarded by the people of this district as signs of wet weather.
    (1) A halo around the moon
    (2) A certain kind of fog on Mount Gabriel
    (3) Swallows flying low
    (4) The dust on the road blown up in clouds by the wind
    (5) A dog eating grass
    (6) The rooks flying around and perching on the hills
    (7) Cows gathering together in a field
    (8) A great many cobwebs on the bushes
    (9) The hills and islands looking near
