    into a plank of timber which is stretched along the ground and reaches from wall to wall. The ends of the plank are fixed into the wall. About five feet above that plank there is another plank. The upper ends of the sticks are fixed into this plank. One of the sticks is stationary, and has an iron loop attached to it. The other stick can be moved backwards and forward along the top plank through a hole about six inches long. There is a space of about two feet between the stalls, and between the stalls and the walls there is a space of about two feet, where the cows feed. Each cow has her own stall, and when we are tying the cows we push the movable sticks forward, and draw the loops over them. The cows are then held firmly, a space of about nine inches being between the two sticks of each stall. When we are leaving out the cows we raise the loops, and push out the movable sticks.
