The new shoe is then fitted and it is placed on the horses hoof for a while and the hoof becomes fitted to the shoe. The smith then fastens it so with five nails. A smith does not make farm implements but he repairs them.Any forge work is not done in the open air, but when the smith puts on iron band on a car wheel he puts it into water to firm it securely, because when the iron cools it contracts and then remains so on the wheel. In such cases a stream adjacent to a forge is very convenient.
