- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)When shoeing, the smith first removes the old shoes, by pulling out the nails. The new shoe is then fitted and it is placed on the horses hoof for a while and the hoof becomes fitted to the shoe. The smith then fastens it so with five nails. A smith does not make farm implements but he repairs them.Any forge work is not done in the open air, but when the smith puts on iron band on a car wheel he puts it into water to firm it securely, because when the iron cools it contracts and then remains so on the wheel. In such cases a stream adjacent to a forge is very convenient.
