  1. Martin Treacy Cloonmore was a great swimmer. He swam from Connaught to Leinster about 2½ miles across the Shannon in a short time.
    Pat Dodd of Longford swam from Inis Crawley to the Quaker Island a distance of two miles.
    Paddy Fayne, Longford, swam from Longford shore to the Cloonmore shore in 35 minutes. This was over 2 miles.
