of wood. The rock eventually collapsed bringing down more than half of the tower. The ruin is about 21ft. long with walls 4 to 5ft. thick. There are two floors, the lower with a neat pointed doorway in the south east corner leading to the land. A little stream, hidden in cress runs down the opposite cliff.
    Cleena's Rock
Between Ross Bay and the Galley Head is a strand called Cleena's strand, off which, standing in the water at a short distance from the beach is the rock known as Carrig-Cleena, around which the waters assume a dark hue. The old people still relate many marvellous tales of Cleena's magic powers. Cleena was Queen of the Munster fairies and banshee of the Desmond kings. One old story declares that she was chained to this rock, another says she was a foreigner who was drowned there.
Tonn-Cliodhna beats on Cliodha's Rock. This wave is said to utter a plaintive wail when a monarch of the south dies, or as the poet puts it:-
"Twas said whene'er a monarch dropped
    Off Muster's roll of fame
From the wave which Carrig Cleena stopped
    A wail of sorrow came".
