- In this district it is very seldom that a marriage takes place on a Monday, Wednesday, or Friday. It is the custom not to get married on those days. The part of the year that most weddings take place is "shrove" and especially on shrove "Tuesday." For it is the last day before Lent. In Lent and advent certain blessings of the church are not received, and so few weddings take place at those times. In the woman's parish the marriage is celebrated, but sometimes the couple may go to Cork to be married. When they come out of the chapel, rice or chips of paper is thrown on the married couple.
After the ceremony is over a great feast is held in the bride's or bride-groom's house or in some hotel. Weddings are not as good(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
