- There are many superstitious beliefs about certain days throughout the year. It is said that no milk should be given away on May Day, and that the person who would give it could make no butter for the year. It is unlucky to be first at the well that morning. If you wash your face on the dew on May Day you would get no sickness for the year round.
If you went to see a sick person on a Monday or a Friday it is said that that person die and it is unlucky to rise out of bed after sickness on a Friday. If a person got married on a Monday, Wednesday, or Friday they would have a bad life. Potatoes that are planted in May are said to be no good and are called "Cuckoo Potatoes" The days around Michaelmas are called the "harvest of the geese".
