Ar an leathanach seo
- Nearly all houses about fifty years ago were a very bad type and the majority of them were small and thatched but a few of them were slated. They were thatched with wheaten straw and sometimes they used to be thatched with rushes. The slate was got from slate-quarries. Some of the old people had a bed in the kitchen. It was placed in a corner near the fire. The fireplace was always at the gable-wall. The fire was never in the corner. Some of the chimneys were made of mortar and stones and others were made of straw. The old people never heard of houses having no chimneys. I never heard of houses having the fire in the centre of the floor. There are no accounts now of houses having no glass for their windows.
