- Long ago people used not to wear shoes until they were from fifteen to twenty years of age. A travelling man by the name of Driscoll never wore shoes. Children at present go barefoot in summer and some go barefoot all year round. The water that is used for washing the feet in not thrown out until next morning, It is said that it is not lucky to throw out the water for washing the feet that night. There are four shoemakers in the town of Ballydehob. Their names are Mr. Murphy, Mr. Jack Nagle, Mr. Jim Nagle and Mr. Joe Daly.
