One day the Goban bade a servant of his to kill and skin a sheep. When this was done he told his son to take the skin to the fair, and bring back the skin and the price of it This was a strange task, but the Goban's son was very obedient and always did as his father told him for he knew his father was wiser and had more knowledge and experiences than he had. So he took the skin to the fair and those who asked him his business he replied that he wanted the skin and the price of it and everyone who heard him turned away laughing.
At length a young girl came and she offered to buy the hide on three terms. She got a pair of shears and cut off all the wool and gave him back the skin. It happened that at this time wool was very dear and hides were cheap and so what he got from the girl was as much as the hide + wool were worth together.
When he came home to his father, he asked him if he knew where the girl lived. He said that he did. Goban sent her word to come on a visit to their house but he told her not to come in the daytime not at night time: not to come by the road, not to cross the fields and not to come alone nor yet to have anyone with her.
