- Graveyards
There are three graveyards in Ballaghaderreen parish. One is situated in the town. The other is in Kilcolman about a quarter of a mile below the town and the other in Monasteradeen about four miles from the town. In each there are tomb stones and crosses, and flowers over almost every grave.
There is an old graveyard in Castlemore which is not not being used. Once a Protestant was buried in it. After this it was condemned and no one ever since was buried there. Even to this day there is a narrow dark green strip surrounding the old graveyard. It is supposed that this is a sign not to till inside the the boundary line.
In olden times every corpse when being taken to the church or to the graveyard was carried on men's shoulders, for in those times there was no motor hearse.
In one of Dominic O'Donnell's fields there is a grave in which unbaptised babies are buried.- Bailitheoir
