As I lay down to rest, I pray to God my soul to bless, four corners on my bed, four angels on them spread. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, God bless this bed that I lie on Christ Jesus bless me while upon this bed I lie. If I die before I awake I pray to God my soul to take, Amen.

This is a prayer which was said in olden times If a person had dust in his eye
"O Blessed Virgin, I give my eye to thee to take out the dust as I have failed myself."
When saying this prayer sign of the cross was made over the eye. The eye was shut for a few minutes to show confidence in the prayer. When the eye was opened the dust had vanished. It was believed that if this prayer was well said the Blessed Virgin would assist the person.
