    In the spring of 1893 there was severe frost which lasted for fourteen weeks. The people had to keep the cattle in the stables and supply them with water and hay.
    There were a great many accidents among cattle. Three young calves belonging to my neighbour Michael Towey broke their legs and had to be killed.
    The people became short of turf and many had to burn timber. They could not "turn" or plough the land, until April and therefore had not much tillage.
