  1. The year of the famine there were thirty-two houses in our village but about fifteen homes were destroyed at the time.
    The people were so weak that they could not bring the corpses to the cemetery and they dug holes here and there and threw down the unconfined bodies into them. Today small buses and heaps of stones are seen for marks over these places.
    One person while coming from Castlerea was unable to walk any father and he went into a barrel for shelter. He was found dead there the next morning. This happened near Lisannanny Hill.
    Once a man who was suffering from the effects of the famine went into a well-to-do house and on feeling the warmth of the fire he fainted. The people sent for his wife and she after getting a hot drink of whiskey him restored him to life. When the went out into the cold he died saying “Máire if you get me a mug of brought I’ll get well.” Immediately a mug of soup
