An Old Local Song
“In St. Patrick's Well there used to dwell”
An old local song
In St Patrick's well there used to dwell
A trout so plump and fine.
A nicer fish you could not wish
On any day to dine.
Of Boyle, the pride
Both far and wide the people love to tell
Of the blessed trout that swarm about all in St Patrick's well.
An English fool though rather cool
To catch what others spared.
With many a boast he tried to roast
This trout that he had snared.
Before he knew away he flew and where he could not tell.
Till he saw no doubt the roasted trout
Again in St Patrick's well.
Unsatisfied again, he tried once more
This trout to catch but let him chose the deepest ruse
I'm sure he met his match,
Till well and sad
He flew like mad
The people laughed they tell
It's turn about, says the roasted trout.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
