    About three miles to the east of Portlaoighise near the Rock of Dunamase a treasure is supposed to be hidden by one of the O Moores in t he time of when Cromwell came to Ireland. It consists of jewels, precious stones and gold sovereign.

    There are many hidden treasures around Portlaoighise. There is a hidden treasure at the Rock of Dunamace and it is hidden under a rock and was supposed to have been put there by the O' Moores. Many attempts have been made to find it but to no avail. Anyone who tried to get it was haunted by rats.
