  1. There are a lot of names of places around Laoighis some of which are situated in Portlaoighise.
    At the back of Portrane there is a field called The Saucer Field because its shape is like a saucer. It is a sort of a valley situated between two hills.
    At the back of the town in Tower Hill there is a field called Castle Field. There was a castle there once upon a time & the ruins pf it are still to be seen. The walls around it are very high and it dates back to a very early period.
    About two miles to the north east of Portlaoighise there is a place called the
