    When thro' life's eventful day
    We've got weather dark and vile
    Should some brightness come our way
    Let us meet it with a smile
    If from causes unforeseen
    We have let the Summer slip
    Autumn leaves are deeper green
    Just the season for our trip

    We might go by aeroplane
    To a sail across the sky
    We might take a railway train
    But we did'nt reason why
    Aeroplanes get overthrown
    Railway coaches run away
    'Tis the Grand Canal alone
    That neverm never goes astry

    So we hired a Barrow boat,
    Nicely tarred and lined in red,
