- In connection with the Famine of '48 there is a large pot in the district which is said to have been used for making stirabout for the poor starving people. When the porridge was cooked it was left in one of the houses in Paulstown village, and the poor people stood in a quene waiting their rations. It was a great humiliation for some of the people who had been "respectable farmers', the owners of the house often called those apart and give them their rations privately.
