A rainbow at night is the shepherd's delight."
Wind. The North wind brings cold. The East wind which blows to this district in March also brings cold. South and South-West winds bring most rain to the district.
Birds. The crows usually leave Rockville wood every day. Sometimes they remain in it and then the people of the district know that the day will be wet. The crows have often been seen to go away in the morning and return again. The people recognise this as a sign of rain.
The swallows fly low and seem to dart in and out before rain.
The seagulls come inland before a storm on sea.
Hens peck at their feathers before rain. Turkeys screech mournfully before rain. The sky-goat cries before rain. Before a storm wild ducks come from the lake.
Animals. Before rain the cat sits with her back to the fire, and the dog eats grass.
