  1. The old people had many marriage customs, but they are practically dead now.
    They looked on Leap-year as an unlucky time to get married. They used to get married during the time from Xmas until Shrove Tuesday. The young people used to go to town and pelt salt at each other on Shrove Tuesday.
    May and June were noted as unlucky months. The lucky months were January and December. Friday, Saturday and Sunday were supposed to be unlucky days. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday were said to be lucky days.
    The way the match was made was men would go the girl's house and ask her is she would marry the man and if she was willing they would decide the fortune.
    The fortune was generally between thirty and forty pounds. Sometimes the bride would get part of her father's land and cattle. Also the married couple would get a cow, a bed and presses.
    It was a custom that the married pair should wear old clothes, new clothes, borrowed clothes, blue clothes on the day of their
