James Carew was a member of Parliament for North Kildare.

James Carew was a Member of Parliament for North Kildare. James Kennedy from Rathcoe beat Carew in the election. Carew's last meeting was at the cross of Allenwood. There was a dance in James' Brennan's in Grangeclare and Carew's backers were at it and they sand a song the chorus of which was:-
    "Whiskey hot and porter too,"
To nourish the herds of Jimmy Carew".
