  1. The holly and ivy that decorates the houses at Christmas is taken down after Twelfth day and stored up until Pancake Night and burned under the pancakes when they are baking.

    Long ago in all the farmers' houses twelve lighted candles stuck in a plate of oat-meal were placed in the window and the first poor person that came along the next day got the plate of oatmeal.
