The soldier again demanded to know what was in the box & threatened to cut the head off the witch unless she told him, she refused & he attempted to behead her, but she vanished in flames. The soldier kept the flint box & went to the nearest town to get some wine to quench his awful thirst
When he did so he returned once more to his home next day his friends came to see him He began to distribute some of his magic gold this time a princess was in prison & the soldier longed to see her, he was still in possession of the magic flint box his store of gold was running out & his friends were leaving
One night he went to his room & he was very sad & sat in the darkness, he took the flint box from his pocked & began making sparks to give him light on his first attempt a dog appeared to him from the box. The solider spoke to the dog to release the princes the dog did so & returned with the princess on his back asleep the king heard it & came to see his daughter lest she might marry the common soldier, she refused to obey her father & the king in revenge arrested the soldier & sentenced him to be hanged shortly after. The soldier was in prison for sometime & had no chance of(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
