- My Home district The name of the townland I live in is Feragh. It is in the parish of Monaghan and the barony of Monaghan. There are nine families in Feragh. Thre are 42 people in it all. There are no two family names the same in Feragh now. Allister was the most common name in Feragh long ago. There were four parties of the Maglones in Feragh at one time. Long ago there were more thatched houses than now. About twenty years ago there were only 3 houses in Feragh slated. There are 6 houses in Feragh slated now and three houses thatched. The townland of Feragh was always noted for good grazing and that is how it got its name. Mr Peacock is the only man over seventy that is living in the townland he does not know Irish. Mr Peacocks father got a cow stolen in the time of the famine and he was telling my father about it. There were a lot more houses in the district in former times. There is only one house in ruins in Feragh(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
