    of tay", "a sup of milk", "a lock of sugar" and so on, into the bargain. They usually have some pitiful story to tell of a man in the hospital or a wee sick child.
    Sometimes they trap rabbits and birds and steal corn, potatoes and other things. Usually they move on from the place of encampment at the end of a few days, but if they get troublesome the Guards will disperse them. About thirty years ago some of these travellers were known to the people and would stay a night or two in a house before continuing their travels. They were welcomed by the people for they usually brought a great deal of news with them. These travelled singly and got their food in the houses of the people.
