- In the year 1920 and 21 there was great destruction in Ireland. The Irish rebels wanted their country back again, and they rose in rebellion. England poured troops into Ireland. These troops were known as Black and tans. The Irish Rebels were burning all the principal places. Among these was Mullahara Orange Hall. Parish of Tydavnet Co Monaghan. This was set fire to about one oclock in the night. The driver of the two oclock train saw the blaze and he left word in Clones that there was a great fire between Smithboro and Monaghan. The rebels guarded the roads leading to the Hall, in case anyone would know who did this terrible deed.
