   All those folk travelled alone. One rag man had a donkey upon which he placed the rags.

   Then there was the traveller who begged the country side and towns within a radius of 6 miles. This man carried no goods, and would stay at certain houses in his district, for the night. There was a bed of straw in a corner of the kitchen for him to sleep in and he would have as much meal, tea, sugar, and bread, as would be sufficient for his meals. The best known of these travellers were "Philip the Whistler" and "Diney" Hoy. The former had all the news of the district each evening. He
