  1. A man named John Sullivan, who lived at Slievegoura, was once famous for his strength. Once when he was coming from a fair in a donkey-cart, the donket became exhausted and could go no further. He put the donkey into the cart, and pushed it before him for the remainder of the journey, a distance of about nine miles. On another occasion he brought a full set of donkeys harness from Tralee to Slievegaura on his back. Another strong man named James Leary lived at Coolroe. Once he threw a sack of meal across a horse and car into his own car which was at the other side of the horse-and-car. Another time he lifted a rail of turf by catching the car by the back shafts. He supported the car while a wheel was being put on it. In Ballymalis there were two good swimmers, named Dennis Collins and Daniel Leary. Both of them swam about half-a-mile of the river Laune.
