  1. This a plant which grows in various parts of the parish. It grows in bunches and has a stalk of eight to twelve inches high crowned with small circular leaves. When the stalk is broken it is found to be full of a milk like fluid.
The roots are poisonous and are dug up and used for poisoning fish. It is the juice of the roots which is poisonous and if a drop of it falls on a person's face the face swells to enormous size, closing the eyes. It is very dangerous and has long roots. When being lifted if a root breaks it scatters the juice and if a drop of it went into the eye that person could be heard a mile away shouting, with pain. Besides, breaking the roots means losing some of the juice.
The roots are then pounded with a mallet while in a bag until they are all crushed. The bag is then thrown into the river and immediately fish taste it they rush off blindly and if in a pool from which they cannot escape they die readily especially if the sun is shining.
