    was a battle between a local body of moon-lighters and the bailiffs from Killarney in which one of the latter was killed. The police fled in terror to the nearest station at Rathmore while the pursuers followed them for two miles and kept up the firing - stones being freely used. On the following day, they came with renewed forces and engaged in another battle. The school children were returning from school at the time and the district Inspector - Doran - said to one little boy "why did you throw the stone and kill the man yesterday?"
