  1. In the Penal Days the Irish were forbidden to say Mass in any part of Ireland. Consequently the catholics would be deprived of the consolation of Mass and the sacraments, only for some noble priests who were hiding in the Cold Caves on the hill sides, there to say mass in secret for the catholic people.
    When they would get a chance they would send out some trust worthy messengers to collect the people for Mass on those mountain sides.
