- Long ago the old house used to be very small. Some of them used to be thatched with rushes and others with straw. There used to be a bed in all the old houses called a pouch. It used to be in the corner of the house beside the fire. They used to make the floors from dirt. They never had any windows in their little houses they used to have a door to show them light. Half doors were used long ago. The people used to burn turf and wood. Candles were made locally.
