   Oppression holds way o'er the dust of the free,
   And Liberty sleeps by the Vale of Tralee.

   But the seed of Milesius and Scota the brave,
   Still breathe on that high mountain pass o'er the wave,
   Nor can tyranny vanquish nor liberty flee
   The descendants of Ir by the Vale of Tralee.

   Whilst an Irian lives, so shall Liberty too,
   In that land of the daring, the brave and the true;
   When both shall forsake that old grave by the sea,
   May the raging waves roll o'er the Vale of Tralee.

   Yet shall Irians reign in old Erie's green shore,
   When the names of their tyrants are mentioned no more;
   Their homes and their shrines, and their country be free,
   From storied Euchain to the Vale of Tralee!

   Yes, Free as the winds on those mountains that rave,
   And fixed as those rocks that stand over the wave;
   Resistless and mighty as the invincible sea
   That lashes the cliffs by the Vale of Tralee.

   In the mirror of fancy those mountains appear,
   Though mine eyes have not seen them for many a year,
