    And in his deep affliction
    He spoke in liberty saying
    "God save poor Old Ireland
    And banish every knave".
    I hipe the son of freedom
    Will be shining oe'r his grave.

    For sword or gun he ne'er did shun
    But hurried to the field.
    The death he bore to freedom
    Oh fear it was the cause
    He longed to crush old tyrants
    And he hated English laws.
