  1. St Patrick was once travelling through county Longford. He stopped at a man's house named Reynolds for his dinner. The woman cooked a dog for him and the saint knew it was not right meat. He commanded the meat to take the shape of what ever animal it was then the meat turned into a dog. At that time the hair on dogs lay inclined from the tail to the head but the Saint rubbed his hand against the ley of the hair which grew that way ever afterwards He cursed that district and it is barren to day
