- The gate of Plesham is situated in the town land of Lisloughlin on part of the land belonging to Mr Martin Dempsey. It is built of cut stone in the form of an arched gateway surmounted by three spires closely resembling the three middle fingers of a man's hand, hence the local name "The Three Fingers"The longest of the fingers is roughly about 4ft in height while the other two measure about 3ft each. Very little is known locally about it or for what purpose it was erected for most of the old people who could have supplied any information about it are now dead but it is generally believed that it is a landmark which was erected there in ancient times and it appears to serve this purpose well. It is situated on very high ground and can be seen for miles. It is said that on a fine day when visibility is good, it is possible for anybody standing on top of the fingers to see the town of Galway.
