- Down in Cooloo there lived a man named Andy Lohan. He was accused of killing a man by hitting him with a stone. He was brought before the court in Galway and the Judge asked if there was any person present who had any experience of Lohan. This man named Blake of Garbally stood up and said that he never saw two dogs fighting that Lohan would be the third. Then he was brought home to Cooloo and he was hung. His mother came back to Blake's and she knelt down outside the house and cursed it. Then after a few years the Blake's disappeared and the inhabitants since are very unfortunate. The house is very dark and gloomy at the present day and the sun hardly ever shines on it.
- About three hundred yards from the village of Menlough there is a field which leaves marks of a battle field. At present it belongs to Mrs. Lohan and it is situated about four hundred yards from the castle of Menlough. In it are to be seen four trenches which are parallel to one another and they are facing towards the(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
