Or a calf born on Easter Sunday would be cross.
Any boy born on Good Friday would become a priest.
It is never right to give away milk on the first of May or the first day of the year. It is said you would give away the luck of the milk for the year.
It is said never to let a stranger milk your cow the first after the first calf or the cow will never have any more milk. The stranger will take away the luck.
Or never to give away any growing crops without some money even a half penny.
Long ago the people of every village used to watch to see the first house smoke was in on May morning and they used to say that they would be the first to die.
