   The only chance they had of speaking to each other was at night when one watchman would be going (home) to bed and another getting up.
   One night the watchman heard groans coming from the captain's cabin. He heard them again the second night and then the sound of someone falling. He called the mate who went to the captains door. He found the captain lying on the floor. With some difficulty he raised him, who on recovering, immediately demanded angrily what all the fuss was about. The mate replied that, on hearing groans coming from the cabin he had gone in and found him on the floor and lifted him up. The captain made answer by saying that if he chose to sleep on the floor in this hot weather that is was his own business.
   Next day they took the latitude and longitude the same as usual. Everybody noticed how the captain started and grew pale when he saw the particular latitude and longitude entered on the mate's book. Next day the captain seemed pleasanter than ever before. He walked around the desk and even attempted to smile. When the time came for taking the latitude and longitude of that day the mate and captain assembled on deck. Great
