    In olden times the houses used to be built of bog sods and when the walls were high enough for to put on the roofs they would get rafters and scraws and put the scraws over the rafters. then they would thatch the house sometimes with straw or sedge or ruches with scollaps.
    Nearly all the houses were thatched in former times very few were slated.
    They got the sedge and rushes in the mountains and the straw in the land of wheat or oats.
    The slates were brought from England as they could not get them in Ireland because there was no slates got from the quarries in Ireland in former times like nowadays.
    The chimneys were made of clay and black sallies and old bags,
