   first pair of boots that I heard of was called "Brogues". They were very heavy boots with big nails in the sole of them. In later years, lighter and fancier boots came into fashion. This is an old rhyme I heard about the boots long ago.

   "To spare the light basil, that cost half a crown,
   They won't put them on till they come near the town,
   They they will cut a great show in the street,
   Though at home they have beds without blanket or sheet".

   I heard of an old man that never wore a boot in his life. He went by the name of "Yellow Jimmy", and he lived to be a great age.

   There is an old man in this district who wears clogs. He gives a wonderful praise of them how they are
