- (continued from previous page)built on any part of his property. Two brothers well known in Dublin who wine merchants named James and Charles Kennedy who kept a large licensed premises at the corner of Mary's Abbey now at the present time a draper's shop named Moran & Flynn. The Kennedys decided to out do Lord Anally and got permission from the Midland and Royal Canal company to erect a school house on their property. The brothers remarked he will now see it from his own window which accounts for the height of the school. On the first morning that the school chimney was built a flag on a large pole was put up which could be seen at a great distance. The buttler at Luttrellstown called Lord Anally attension to the flag telling him there and then what the flag meant, the building of a school free for Clonsilla. This set the old Lord wild with anger.
One of the first teachers to be appointed was a Mr. Dunn afterwards taught in Castleknock school. The brother Kennedys made a present of a coat and trousers to every boy who had a 100 days full attendance. My Grand father had the making of the clothes. Some of those boys, now old men, are still alive.- Collector
