    Festival Customs
    ash wednesday. On ash wednesday ashes are put on the foreheads of the people.
    On the first of may the boys gather together and cut a bush with plenty of may on it. The words of the song they sing are:
    a long life
    and a happy wife
    and something for the may bush
    The song the boys sing and st Stephen's day is
    The wren the wren
    the king of all birds,
    On st Stephens day she was caught in the furze
    she dipped her wing
    in a barrel of beer
    and wishes all a hapy new year
