- Care of the feet
In older times people did not wear boots until they were about twenty years of age.
They wore boots to protect their feet from the sharp stones when they were working in the fields.
In the west of Ireland people never wear boots, only when they are going to Church.
Most children do not wear boots in summer, but I know a boy who never wears boots.
It was an old custom not to throw out the water one hallow eve in which you washed your feet in, as yo were to keep the water until the next day. Boots were made in Sowrds by a man named Mr. M Gartoll and employed(continues on next page)- Collector
